Repetition is important for any classroom, but especially key for students in Preschool. Each time I introduce a new song or rhyme I will update directions for you to share with your child at home. Currently these are the musical activities we do in Preschool:
"Clap Your Hands"
--The words of this rhyme are accompanied by the movements of what you say.
Clap, clap, clap your hands as slowly as you can
Clap, clap, clap your hands as quickly as you can
Shake, shake, shake your hands as slowly as you can
Shake, shake, shake your hands as quickly as you can
Roll, roll, roll your hands as slowly as you can
Roll, roll, roll your hands as quickly as you can
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle your fingers as slowly as you can
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle your fingers as quickly as you can
Rub, rub, rub your hands as slowly as you can
Rub, rub, rub your hands as quickly as you can
Tap, tap, tap your hands as slowly as you can
Tap, tap, tap your hands as quickly as you can
"Thumbkin"
--Sung to the tune of Frere Jacques (Are you Sleeping?).
Where is Thumbkin, Where is Thumbkin
(Hands behind your back)
Here I am, Here I am
(One thumb out, then the other)
How are you today sir, very well I thank you
(Thumbs take turn "talking" to each other)
Run away, Run away
(Hands behind back)
*Repeat with Pointer, Tall Man, Ring Man, Pinky, and The Family.
"Ten Fingers"
--Movements follow the words.
I have ten little fingers
And they all belong to me
I can make them do things
Would you like to see?
I can shut them tight
I can open them wide
I can put them together
Or I can make them all hide
I can make them jump high
I can make them jump low
I can fold them quietly
And hold them just so.
"The Wiggle Song"
--Sung to the tune of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow". Wiggle each body part as you say it.
My thumbs are starting to wiggle, my thumbs are starting to wiggle
My thumbs are starting to wiggle, around, around, around.
-Repeat with fingers, hands, arms, legs, head, all of me.
"Pass the Ball"
A game where you roll a ball back and forth. When you roll the ball sing "I roll the ball to (name)" and when the child rolls back sing "(s)he rolls it back to me."
